Baking soda reduces Inflammation : If you are suffering from any kind of Inflammation caused by autoimmune disease, don’t’ worry the cure is in the kitchen, the inexpensive material used in cooking called the “Baking soda” can ease your problems new research indicates.
Baking Soda (NaHCO3)
We all know Baking soda or Sodium bicarbonate, it is a cheap salt made of sodium and bicarbonate ions, and it has variety of uses in our daily lives. Beside cooking and baking, it proves helpful in pest control, raising the total alkalinity in pools, fireworks, Mild disinfectant – effective fungicide and fire extinguisher. If you accidentally spill out acid on floor, just put baking soda on it for Neutralization. Baking soda reacts passionately with acids, neutralizes them and produces CO2 gas.
Now our hard-working scientists in lab discovered that it could also help us in autoimmune disease. Dr. Paul O’Connor, Renal physiologist, of Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University reported his findings in Journal of Immunology.
Baking soda and Autoimmune Disease
In Autoimmune disease, immune system works abnormally and it attacks our own body tissues and this causes Inflammation. There are 80 types of autoimmune diseases so far identified and any part of the body can be affected by this.
Rheumatoid arthritis, Alopecia areata, celiac disease, diabetes mellitus type 1, Graves’ disease, inflammatory bowel disease, multiple sclerosis, psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus are some types of Autoimmune Diseases.
Ok, now what new thing scientists have discovered that baking soda reduces the inflammation. It encourages our spleen to produce an anti – inflammatory environment in the whole body.
Several tests on Rats and on healthy students were performed and they found that baking soda encourages the stomach to make more acid and it tells the mesothelial cells found on the surface of spleen that there is no need to start a protective immune response.
“it’s most likely a hamburger not a bacterial infection,” is basically the message, says Dr. Paul O’Connor, author of the research paper.
“Certainly drinking bicarbonate affects the spleen and we think it’s through the mesothelial cells “O’Connor says.
Drinking water with baking soda for two weeks the population of immune cells cell d macrophages, shifted from M1 Type that promotes inflammation, to type M2 cells that reduces inflammation.
How Baking soda reduces inflammation
Earlier clinical trials have shown that a daily dose of baking soda can not only reduce acidity but also slow progression of the kidney disease; and Dr. O’Connor asked why? Like Newton asked why apple fell to the ground?
“We started thinking how does baking soda slow progression of kidney disease? O’Connor says.
First he tested baking soda drink on healthy rats then on healthy medical students.
“The shift from inflammatory to an anti inflammatory profile is happening everywhere” “we saw it in the kidney, we say it in the spleen, now we see it in the peripheral blood”
The daily dose of Baking soda solution increased the T cells down the immune response and keep the immune system from attacking body tissues.
So, before you start this daily dose, please consult your doctor first, he/she will guide you the right quantity and method to intake baking soda for reducing the inflammation.
